Anticancer Activity of Phenylpropanoid Isolated from Natural Product

Abstract
3.4¢¥-dihydroxypropiophenone, a phenylpropanoid, purified from Betula platyphylla var, latifolia was evaluated on the antitumor activity. In vitro, the cytotoxicity was determined by 0.4% trypan blue dye exclusion method.
3.4¢¥-dihydroxypropiophenone had the significant cytotoxicity to three tumor cell lines: human chronic myelogenous leukemia K-562, human promyelocytic leukemia HL-60, mouse leukemia P388. And the most sensitivity cell line was K-562(ED_50=5.12ug/ml).
The ED_50 of 3.4¢¥-dihydroxypropiophenone against HL-60, P388 were 9.02 and 6.42 ug/ml respectively.
As a result, 3,4¢¥-dihydroxypropiophenone was considered to show the antitumor activity.
